OWN A PIECE OF NEW YORK CITY - originals by William Fisher
Original Pen and Ink Drawings of New York City (Lower Manhattan) -- fabulous black and whites! I have a large collection of pen and ink/ink wash drawings done by artist William Fisher. William Fisher (1891-1985) was born in Brooklyn, NY. He studied at the Brooklyn Institute of Art and Science and at Pratt Institute. He became an illustrator in the 1920’s. His work appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, as well as the Villager for which these pieces were created. The Villager is a New York City based publication that serves lower Manhattan communities. Fisher opened an art gallery and school in NYC in partnership with Margaret Kilburn, also an artist and crafts person. They also opened a gallery and school in Kennebunkport, Maine. Fisher is reported to have died in 1985 in a nursing home in Maine. These sketches were found in a trunk in a Kennebunkport house. The sketches are of interiors and exteriors. They are each unique, done on heavy paper, measuring approximately 14 1/2 inches x 19 3/4 inches. They are unframed but look great in a simple black frame, not matted to retain the original notations to the publisher. They are perfect for a home, restaurant or store!
